STUBE Hessen

STUBE Hessen

Seminars, academies and workshops for students in Bachelor, Master, Magister and PhD programmes

The events are open for students of all faculties and are arranged in an interdisciplinary way. The focus is on development-oriented issues in relation to the SDGs (UN Sustainable Development Goals) and the events are executed in cooperation with competent experts in the field by use of various educational approaches. The seminars, academies and workshops aim at helping to develop a South-South dialogue in which topics relevant for the participants are discussed. By offering these events STUBE Hessen also aims at building up a network among the students. 2 seminars per semester are held in English.

Supporting local activities

STUBE Hessen supports initiatives and work groups of foreign students who want to organize development-oriented events in their cities. The support includes help with the organization and implementation of events, choosing experts, and STUBE will, on application, participate in the financing.

Financial aids for internships, final thesis and professional preparation (BPSA)

Many students spend several years in Germany without having an opportunity to visit their home countries. Things that were familiar in former times become strange, personal contacts dwindle and also contacts to universities and companies – and thus to potential employers – are missing upon the students' return.

Taking this into account, STUBE Hessen promotes work experience schemes for professional training (internships etc.) and research stays for final thesis in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The aim of such stays is to help students building a bridge to their home countries and to prepare themselves purposefully for their future professional life. STUBE supports the visits by covering the travel costs, health insurance for the stay abroad and in some cases helps out with a payment for inland travel costs.

Target groups and events

We are a development-oriented education program for students from Africa, Asia and Latin America who are studying in Hesse. We offer seminars, academies and workshops, promote work experience schemes in Africa, Asia and Latin America and support students in the organization of public events in their cities.

Professional and personal qualification

The program is making a contribution to the professional qualification and thus to the reintegration of the students in their home countries. We are accompanying the students at an early time and for a long term and, by working together, are establishing a meaningful professional perspective for the time after their return to their home countries. STUBE Hessen supports the students to make use of the knowledge acquired in Germany in their countries of origin.

Partners

Partners include universities and their institutions as well as all other institutions that attempt to provide educational activities accompanying the foreign students' studies. In particular we work with the foreign students themselves. A participation in the STUBE program is possible in the direct way (for instance at the program planning stage) or via the student associations
and the AStA organizations of the universities.

Organizational structure

STUBE Hessen is a project of the World University Service (WUS) in cooperation with the Evangelische Studierendengemeinden (Protestant Student Associations) in Hessen. The program is financed by the Hessen State Ministry of Higher Education, Research and the Arts and with financial means of Brot für die Welt – Evangelischer Entwicklungsdienst.
